6 Quart Crock Pot
A 6 quart crock pot is the ideal slow cooker for cooking for a large family or a dinner party. It is not too big or too small because it has a capacity of 6 quart which is equivalent to 24 cups.
Depending on the model you are buying, certain 6 quart crock pots may be microwave oven safe while others may not be so safe when used on a stovetop. If you intend to use it as a Dutch oven or over the stovetop, make sure that the model you're buying is designed to withstand extreme temperature change so that you can be rest assured that the stoneware crock will not crack when you used it outside of its heating base.
With a 6 qt crock pot, you can basically cook any type of food that is designed to be cooked in a slow cooker. Soup, roasts and stews just a few types of food you can cook inside a stoneware crock. To ensure that you will be able to see the condition and contents of your food while it is cooking inside, you want to make sure that the lid glass is designed specifically for viewing. You can easily tell when your food is ready to be served just by looking at the LCD screen. For models without the LCD screen, you will need to remember when you start cooking the dish and remember to turn it off when it is done.
Cleaning up can be a huge headache if you choose the wrong type of 6 quart crock pot. Basically you want to choose a slow cooker with a removable stoneware insert with stick-resistant coating. Both the crock and the glass lid should be dishwasher safe unless you don't mind washing them manually with your hand. If the crock insert has a non-stick surface, you must never use a metal scrub while cleaning it because doing so will damage the non-stick coating.
